Standing in The Pocket October 29

Luke 6:47-48

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

Last weekend I was watching an NFL football game, during the game, the quarterback made a touchdown pass to a wide receiver that was open in the end zone. He was so wide open that the next closest defender was on the other side of the end zone.

I said to everyone in the room, “I could have made that pass!” It was so effortless, the quarterback standing with all authority in the pocket and just throwing it with a ton of confidence.

The next day I watched the replay of the game and I thought about what I had said. The answer by way of honesty is that I could never have made that pass, because I never had the self-discipline to go through all the training and endurance that, that man has endured in order to be in that particular moment of time.

Jesus basically said that whoever comes to Him and learns and then does what He has taught will be able to stand when the flood comes. Notice He didn’t say If the flood comes, He said When the flood comes.

I think a lot of new Christians want to stand in the pocket without ever having gone to training camp. Hearing the sayings and doing what He said is the key to building a strong foundation.
