No Collect Calls May 21

1 Samuel 3:8

And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

Samuel one of my favorite prophets; he just seemed like a caring man that did things right. Here we have young Samuel in the temple, and when he hears the voice of God for the third time, he gets up and runs to the head Priest Eli.

Eli is probably in his 80's or 90's at this point, and he realizes what's transpiring and instructs Samuel on what to say.

I love how God approaches the youthful Samuel with patience. Four times He called out to Samuel, and on the fourth call, Samuel gets it right. You see, when God calls, He does it, person, to person. He did not tell Eli what He was doing, and He wanted to speak with Samuel.

Before they laid down to sleep, the bible states that, 'the lamp of God was put out,' it's so symbolic of the light of Eli's ministry coming to an end. There is no more mention of God speaking with Eli.

From now on, He would speak through Samuel. Every person on earth gets a call from God, but few people answer.

When you hear Jesus call your name, be sure and say:

"I'm here LORD."

He is: Jehovah-Shammah
