Knowing God

Psalm 79:9

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.

Our bibles usually read God, Lord, Jehovah, or LORD in all caps. When you see “LORD” in all caps in the Bible, it refers to God’s name: YHWH. When bible scholars write the Name of God in this manner, using only four letters it is called: “Tetragrammaton.” And YHWH is where we get the name YAHWEH. Not saying God’s name or even writing G-d’s name started with the famous Jewish teacher Maimonides (my-mon-a-dees).

Timewise Maimonides probably instituted the usage of the Tetragrammaton sometime before 1200 B.C... Because of this, many Jewish people did not know the name of God by the time Jesus came. Not knowing Who God is, weakens us. If you go to buy a piece of farm equipment, you need to know what it is capable of. You need to know what it's called, all and of it's features or abilities.

Back to Psalm 79:9 “Help us, O God of our salvation.” The application of O God comes from the Hebrew name Elohim, which means Supreme God. Webster’s Dictionary defines Supreme as Highest in altitude, loftiest, and Highest in rank.

No one outranks Elohim! Satan likes to make you think he does. God is a God of trust, of faith. Since the Garden of Eden, faith has been what God desires. God wants you to believe in several things, but first, you must believe He is. And Satan is the opposite; he wants you to think that God does not exist and that he/Satan does not exist. Some say fear is the opposite of faith, and it is, but the opposite of faith does not believe who God is. He gives us hundreds of examples of who He is throughout the Bible. In Psalm 79:9, He calls Himself Elohim, The Supreme God. Here are some of His names:

El-Shaddai: The All-Sufficient One

Jehova Uzzi: The Lord My Strength

Jehova-Rapha: The Lord Who Heals

Theos Pas Paraklesis: The God of All Comfort

Yahweh-Channun: God of Grace

Qeren Yesha: Horn of My Salvation

El-Moshaah: The God Who Saves

El Nathan Neqamah: The God Who Avenges Me

YHWH: I AM

We are so Blessed to know Him.

He is: El

GOD!
