Buckler up

Psalm 18:30

As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.

As for God, these words: ‘as for’, are added by the writers of the King James Bible for clarity. They could have chosen other words to start the verse or left it in its pure form, God His way is perfect. Somehow, it seems as though God is an afterthought when they place the words ‘as for’ at the beginning.

‘Way’ refers to a road or a path, a course of action, or a journey. And His journey is perfect, which means without flaw, or blameless, truth, and without blemish.

The Word of the Lord is Tried. Word is not only the spoken word of God; it is the living word of God. John 1:1, In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Jesus is the ‘Word’, He is the beginning, He is the ending, He was tried, and He was found blameless. And now He has become our defender. As per the Ways of God, something so simple as a buckler God can use in your defense. A buckler is a saucer that attaches to the back of your hand it looks like a ten-inch plate. In battle, it would have been very easy to underestimate the capacity of this defensive weapon. Designed to deflect blows from the enemy’s arsenal of spears, swords, stones, and arrows. If needed it could be an offensive weapon as well, turned sideways and blunted into someone’s throat, skull, or mouth, it can break the enemy’s teeth (Psalm 58:6, Break their teeth o'God, refers to a spiritual enemy), almost like a last chance of survival.

Jesus will defend you; He will protect you when all your defensive weapons have been stripped away, and the only hope you have is a ‘buckler,’ an offensive attack from the Lord. Or, in more modern-day terms, when you Need a Miracle, Trust Him.

He is:

Jehovah Gibbor Milchamah

Mighty in Battle
