Sway This Way October 18
Exodus 23:2-3
“Don’t join mobs’ intent on evil. When on the witness stand, don’t be swayed in your testimony by the mood of the majority present, and do not slant your testimony in favor of a man just because he is poor.
The Living Bible
Every human has an inner desire to be liked, to be accepted by the crowd. The enemy knows this, but that same crowd can love you today and crucify your tomorrow.
Several studies have been done over the years about “Mass Behavior” or how people react when in social groups. Once I watched a British television program on this. The object of the show was to see if they could get someone to murder another person by pushing them off the rooftop.
Not knowing he was on a reality show, the man was subconsciously conditioned through peer pressure by group behavior. To achieve the end goal, they kept reinforcing him with this sentence, “Whatever the cost, DO IT!”
Throughout the whole show, they led him down a dangerous psychological trail that brought him up to the rooftop, where they tried to persuade him to push an innocent man off the edge to his demise.
At the last moment, the man told them he wouldn’t do it. I was pulling for him to do the right thing, and he did.
But the show had one more surprise; at the end of the program, they brought out a dozen other people who had pushed the philanthropist over the edge (of course, the philanthropist had a secret harness that kept him from hitting the ground.) The grand finale for shock value, and it worked.
If you understand crowd behavior, you know a tactic used by Satan himself.
Ephesians 6:13
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
