Dry Water October 15

Psalm 81:7

He said, “You cried to me in trouble, and I saved you; I answered from Mount Sinai where the thunder hides. I tested your faith at Meribah, when you complained there was no water.

In Numbers 22, Moses leads the Hebrews out of Egypt with many signs and wonders by God. Now, after all their unbelief, they start to murmur against Moses again, but why?

God has intentionally led these people to a dry place in the wilderness, not to harm them, which they accuse Moses of, but to test them and measure their faith. Father God wants to show them His magnificence, His Son’s Glory.

God commanded Moses to strike the Rock once, and water would flow from it, enough to quench the thirst of more than two million people, as well as the animals.

Harsh situations in this world can blind you to the spiritual. With their spiritual eyes covered, they complained against God, and Moses was so angry he struck the Rock twice, and that Rock was Christ.

1Corinthians 10:4

—for they were drinking from a spiritual rock that followed them, and the Rock was Messiah.

Because the people had made Moses so mad, he disobeyed God in his anger, and His punishment was that he would not be allowed to set foot in the promised land. It seems unfair that Moses was punished.

You may think you know your pastor; you may think you know all of their burdens, but you don’t. They are like invisible burrows carrying a heavy load, the spiritual weight of a thirsty congregation, just following the leading reigns of the Lord trying to get a dry congregation into the promised land to take a drink from the spiritual waters flowing from Christ.

When the dry trials come, don’t blame your pastor; maybe Jesus brought you here… For a drink from a spiritual rock.
