Morning Prayer

Numbers 6: 24-26

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:

The Lord make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee;

The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee; and give thee peace.

Here is one of the most beautiful blessings in the bible, these words were ordained by God and given to Moses, Moses then gave this prayer to Aaron, Arron gave the prayer to his priests and the priests prayed this over the people of Israel.

This prayer is for all time and everyone, a speech from God, a holy instruction on how to receive His blessing and how to bless your children as well.

In this day and age, we say things like; ‘Don’t work too hard.’

‘Wouldn’t it be so much more gracious to say; ‘May the Lord Bless thee, and Keep thee.’ The word ‘bless’ in this usage means to: kneel, a strange thing for God to say? Why would God kneel beside you?

When I was a young boy, I used to take Judo, I remember my instructor was this huge man, he seemed so tall. As he was trying to teach me, he kneeled down in front of me and he was my height, I kneeled down in front of him and I was to short for him to instruct me, he smiled and said, “No you stand.” He had to bend down or come down to help me, he didn’t get any smaller he just kneeled down to my level to instruct me. His size and his power didn’t diminish but he was able to teach me the correct way. He was so strong and skilled at Judo that he could have easily been a hedge beside me, ‘and keep thee.’

The Lord make His face Shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee;

When you run into someone very special in your life, your face lights up with a smile and it shines, your polite and gracious to them, this is how God wants to see you.

The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Countenance comes from the Hebrew word pânı̂ym, it’s plural but in this instance, it’s used in a singular form, as if all of His attention is focused on only you, it means favor, and to look in your direction.

When God looks in your direction, He will give you:

Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

He is: Sar-Shalom

Prince of Peace
