Jesus said unto the Twelve, Will you also go away? [And do you too desire to leave me?]
Simon Peter answered, Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words (the message) of eternal life.
Sometimes life can get hard, in this case, many of the disciples departed from Christ because they didn’t understand His message. Not understanding, one of the hardest things to accept as a Christian.
I’ve had people tell me this in the past especially when a loved one dies at an early age. What they will say, mostly boils down to a one-word question; “Why?” when we ask ‘Why?’ were asking God to give us an explanation for His actions. In this very verse, Jesus did not give an explanation of His commandment in the synagogue that day.
In verse 54 Jesus said:
He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life.
But the answer did come, and the understanding came with it. He was talking about taking communion. Which brings us to this one-word explanation; ‘Faith’
Why? Faith, that’s Why. Do you have faith to believe in Him when times get hard to believe? Faith to trust in God when the hurt is so deep in your heart that you can’t understand Why?
My life long best friend’s only son passed away, I spent the week with him and listened to his silence and mourned with him. Before I left, I told him, “I didn’t hear you say one thing against God.” His response was one of Faith; “Why would I say anything against God? He’s all I’ve got left.”
Don’t let your grief steal the last thing you have, your faith in God.
