THE PROMISE June 8

Genesis 3:15

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.

After the fall of mankind this is the promise of the Messiah, but how did they get so much revelation out of this one verse?

Enmity is the state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something. Just moments before Adam & Eve were in God’s perfect will, they were friends with God. Suddenly there is this shift, evil is revealed and now a separation exists between man & God.

When God speaks to them, they are in hiding and notice who is still there, Satan. Mankind has made an alliance with sin, now sin is their friend. God immediately positions the order of things. Enmity will be between evil and woman's seed, not between God and mankind. God loves His creation and now He immediately has a plan set forth to redeem us.

Thy seed and her seed: Satan’s seed is sin & death. Adam named the woman Eve because she was the mother of all living beings. This is the only time in the bible where the seed is attributed to a woman. Every other time it is attributed to a man i.e. Abraham the father of all nations, King David and the lineage of David. Hence, this is where we start to understand the virgin birth of Christ, Satan is there too, and he begins to cause confusion.

In Genesis 4:1 Eve gives birth to Cain and exclaims; I have gotten a man from the Lord.

Many texts do not use the word from, some scholars say that this is one word is not in the text. If so, what Eve exclaimed would be more like this; I have gotten a man, The Lord. Eve thought she had given birth to the Messiah. Unfortunately, it was not going to be that simple, Satan’s seed had been planted and his crops are still yet to be harvested.

Over the centuries God continued to reveal His plan. The first seven men named in the linage of the Christ begin to reveal His plan, the cost of redemption was going to be the highest price ever paid in the history of heaven.

These are their names: Adam, Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, and Noah.

This is what their names mean:

Man appointed mortal sorrow, The Blessed God shall come down teaching, His death shall bring the despairing rest.

By His life could He teach us, by sacrificing His life God defeat death, only in righteousness could He defeat sin. God continued to reveal His plan through prophecy.

Isaiah 7: 14 Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign; The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.

There were 414 prophecies in the old testament concerning Jesus all were fulfilled.

it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.

It comes from the Hebrew word, hoo, which is: He; meaning the Christ. By bruising thy head Jesus overwhelmed Satan by giving him a defeating blow on the cross. Satan still retaliates against mankind whom he hates, attacking the heel, the rear of God’s army.

When you strike at the heel you slow the forward progress, but we have two heels and can always make one more step towards the victory. After that,

He will carry you.
