Food for Thought June 10

Psalm 23: 5

T hou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

W hen was the last time you had a banquet prepared for you by the Lord in front of your enemies? Probably more recently than you remember. This is one of the most beautiful Psalms in all of the bible, but we tend to look at it with western eyes. I really can’t see myself sitting at this huge table covered in food looking at all my starving enemies.

Romans 12: 20 – 21

T herefore, if thine enemy hunger feed him, if he thirst, give him drink, in so doing thou shall heap coals of fire on his head.

Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.

Have you ever been in the middle of a group of people that didn’t like you? I have, when you smile and reach out to shake their hand you're feeding them the bountiful blessing’s God has given you; Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, Temperance. These are the fruits of the Holy Spirit and well worth serving.

Mostly it’s the horrible things people say about you or against you, words that hurt and words can devastate people. They never leave your mind and they just roll over and over, like a gnat or a small insect buzzing about your ears. This is why the Good Shepherd would anoint the head of His sheep, especially the ears to keep the frustrating gnats away. Ask the Lord to anoint your head with oil, a holy oil that keeps the thoughts away in the presence of your enemies.

Surely your cup will runneth over, with the fruits of the Spirit.
