You can’t out give God May 5

James 1:27

Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

When I see the word pure, it reminds me of a glass of cool, clean water. Something that you can see through, without any undissolved solids or silt; after all, who would want to drink unclean water?

I find it interesting that the word undefiled comes from the Greek word; am-ee'-an-tos, which comes from another Greek word; al'-fah, Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet.

I think it is no coincidence that God chose this to be a representation of pure religion. The first order is to keep yourself from being undefiled. Then He gives us some straightforward instructions; care for orphans & widows.

Keep yourself out of trouble; today, the opportunity to get into sin is around every ____, well, you can fill in the blank.

Once while sitting in a church service, our pastor referenced this bible verse. There happened to be a widow and her son sitting in front of me. I thought, 'Hey, I can get a blessing out of this,' so I gave her twenty dollars. The money was so precious to her she would not spend it. At that time, little did I know that I would end up marrying her.

Judy has blessed me far more than that twenty-dollar bill ever possibly could have.

You can't out-give God.
