Correct your Path April 18

Jeremiah 10:23

O Lord, I know that the Way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

When reading this scripture, it is easy to make a simple thought, 'God directs my steps.' But here are a couple of words that slip by 'the way.' Initially, in the new testament, people that followed our Lord Jesus were referred to as the people of 'the Way' as we can read in Paul's defense before Felix: Acts 24:14: "But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect. so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets."

The Way comes from the Greek word, hod-os', which means a road or the route. It amazes me how often, when a bad situation comes about that my first thought is usually not so good, your mind can go to the gutter, or your reaction can have you jump into a ditch. Your flesh gets in The Way of The Way. Romans 12:2 explains how to overcome this problem: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Simply put, read your bible and read it often. Proverbs has thirty-one chapters, one for every day of the month. Many times, one of the scriptures will pop into my head when a situation comes about, for example, Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath. Or, Proverbs 15:10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the Way.

Don't get on the wrong side of the Lord and need His correction; iron things out in your own heart and mind first. Proverbs 16:9 A man's heart devises his ways, but the Lord directs his steps.
