Become All Things March 31
1Corinthians 9:19-23
For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
Paul’s teaching how to evangelize, He starts off by saying, I have made myself a slave, a servant to all people.Notice he didn’t say ‘When I went, I expected to be served.’ He did the serving.
One time while attending school I told the Lord I was getting tired of always being the one to do the cleaning after class. Seems like every church I go to, I ended up being the one to do the cleaning or the dishes afterward. That night I finished class and started to clean the bathrooms.
While in there a lady came in and she was so happy to see me cleaning. She said, “I know you’re a rich man! And it just does my heart so good to see a rich man humble himself for the Lord!” I was so tired I just said “Thank you” thinking if I have to be a rich man to help her, I’ll bare the burden of being rich. Maybe not the best example but close enough. I have made myself a slave to everyone.
Another time a relative’s close friend died, they were a different crowd, and they all met at a bar in town. All of the deceased’s friends were gathered together. I went over there because I knew my relatives would be hurting deeply. When I walked in everyone knew who I was, the ‘Holy Roller,’ but they appreciated my presence. I spoke with people while they drank, it didn’t bother me, but I could tell the fact that a Christian had come to pay respects made them feel better. I didn’t lead anyone to the Lord that night, but a seed was planted that Christians do care. To those who are without (outside) the Law, [I became] as one without the Law.
I was at a Full Gospel Businessman’s event and the evangelist made an altar call for the unsaved to come forward. My friend Ray was standing there, and the man said: “I see you standing, come on up!” Ray had accepted the Lord two months before me, I knew he was saved. Ray just bowed his head and walked up reverently. Then I noticed other men get up out of their chairs and go forward to accept the Lord, several. I asked Ray about that afterward and he said, “You know that has happened to me a few times before, I guess the Lord just uses me to prime the pump for others?” Maybe because Ray worked on pumps for a living? But Ray became as though he were unsaved to get others to be saved. And I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings along with you. Ray gets to share in the Blessings of others, and so can you.
