Ephesians 6: 1-3
Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. Honor thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Every parent knows this verse, you may not be able to quote much scripture, but this is the one scripture you can remember for your kids, that is. Our kids referred to it as ‘the bible threat’ maybe because it proceeded the possibility of a short miserable life. I guess the glass is either half full or half empty, depends on which half you want.
I spoke with a person that travels around the country in all white clothing and self-proclaims herself as an apostle/prophet of the lord. She told me that god told her: “this verse is related to the Father and the Holy Spirit, not your parents.” I tried to gently explain that it does refer to your parents.
The word father comes from the Greek word: ‘pater’ which literally means father or parent. But to clarify for all future generations, pater, is used in the very next verse:
Ephesians 6:4 And fathers provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
We know God is not going to provoke your children to wrath, instead, He wants you to train them up, educate them in the ways of the Lord. I have dealt with people like this lady before a few times. One thing I have noticed that is a common thread; unwillingness to submit to the authority of others. What she has is called a: ‘religious spirit.’ This type of spirit is a placebo of the Holy Spirit. They are out of covenant with the body of Christ, going from community to community. II Timothy 3:5 Even though they make a show of being religious, their religion won’t be real. Don’t have anything to do with such people.
Pretty strong words, well-meaning Christians take them into their homes, despite what the bible says, until they’ve had enough and by her own words: “They can’t take the truth about getting rid of all the idols in their homes, and changing their lives, after about a week they kick me out.”
It’s not the kicking out that worries me, it’s what she leaves behind in the spirit. Another thing I’ve noticed that they often say that you can get baptized by yourself, again this is rejecting the authority placed over you by Christ, even Jesus was baptized by John.
Another phrase you will hear them say is: “The word of God has been written incorrectly, mistranslated by man.” This would mean that God is not able to protect His written Word.
The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947 by an Arab shepherd boy. Written by the Essenes, most are leather, some on parchment, containing about 200 scrolls.
Just to be clear the Dead Sea Scrolls contained every book of the Old Testament except the book of Esther. These manuscripts were over one thousand years older than our previous manuscripts. They were written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
By saying that the bible has been mistranslated they can say and do say “God told me!” You will hear this often in their conversations. The religious spirit, by imitating God’s authority, tries to take away your free choice.
She told me that she is often brought to church services and she takes notes, then proceeds to rebuke the pastors’ afterward. I explained that the bible says:
I Timothy 5:1 “Do not Rebuke an elder” But in her words “This does not apply to the office of a prophet!” When you position what the bible has to say, they will often retort: “the bible is inaccurate.” By pressing them, they will admit to never actually reading the bible.
But in the end, you just have to hold your peace, because they love the pleasure of this world more than the truth of God. their name before God in prayer, ask the Lord to reveal to them His Truth.
He is: Lo Shanah
