The God of Presence
Thou preparest table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over
When we read this with our western eyes, the symbolism brings to mind a dinner table at Thanksgiving, with our enemies sitting around watching us eat.
But, let’s look at it a different way today. In Exodus, the Israelites were given exact instructions on how to prepare the tabernacle for the LORD. The furnishings of the Tabernacle (A tent or movable structure, which later became the Holy Temple.) We see further instructions from YAHUAH in:
And thou shall put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be a bread of memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Here’s the representation as to the symbolism of these words.
The Table of Shewbread was just a small table overlaid with Gold about three feet long and two foot tall.
The bread was placed on the table weekly in the: Presence of The Lord, and was called the: “Bread of Presence”
And Jesus said unto them, “I Am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
Frankincense is olive oil combined with certain spices that we call anointing oil. This oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit.
But the wise took the oil in their vessels with their lamps.
Offering made by Fire, here we have another image of The Holy Spirit, as seen on the day of Pentecost.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and sat upon each of them
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Cup, this refers to you. We can see Jesus used a cup to describe the Scribes and the Pharisees in:
Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye make clean the outside cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
Be wise and fill your cup with The Holy Spirit, ask God to overflow you with His presence, because these are your enemies:
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
