The Lord Your God December 21

Colossians 2: 6-10

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him. Rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwells all the fullness of Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

So that you can see the actual depth of what Paul is saying to the Colossians, I’ll paraphrase some here (With my minimal understanding of Hebrew.)

As ye have therefore received The Divine Anointed Messiah, The Divine Jesus our Lord, so walk ye in Him.

Using a Hebrew concordance, we can amplify the names of God to try and understand His character. Knowing this, we can walk IN Jesus, not just alongside Jesus. Paul’s letting you know the authority you have IN Christ.

Rooted and built up in him: In a world where we only see the trees, for their topside appearance, God wants you to look at your roots In Him. The roots hold every tree up IN Him.

...and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Established refers to your roots of belief in Christ or your foundation. There is a theory called, The First Learned Experience. The view is that the first time you hear something about a particular subject, this will be your baseline for your beliefs about that subject from now on. If someone tells you a more accurate explanation, you will judge their explanation from your original baseline, no matter how wrong the first explanation was.

So here is the point of all that, you want to be the first person to explain the truth about Love to your child, the truth about sexual relations outside of marriage, the truth about how much God loves them. Don’t let the world establish a root in your children, a basis of unbelief; teach them your faith, and be: “Thankful to God.” Sometimes it’s hard to be Thankful in a challenging circumstance, but maybe God is pruning you so that your roots will grow to hold up your character because character builds hope.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Everyone has a belief system, a philosophy of some sort, good or bad, right or wrong. I believe much of our beliefs come from the television and it is a very powerful rudiment: (the first principles of a subject.)

Proverbs 21:2

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes.

For in him dwells all the fullness of Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

In Jesus is all the fullness of the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, and you, this is why you have authority over spiritual authorities in high places because you are IN Him!
