The God Who Loves November 18
Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control; against such things there is no law.
This is one of the loveliest scriptures in the bible and probably one of the hardest to live.
When I was a younger Christian, I would go to church and marvel at some of our members' outstanding attributes. I would think our pastor is so intelligent, and his wife was the most joyful. Our assistant pastor had so much patience with people; his wife was and still is one of the most self-disciplined people I have ever met. Another man carried himself with so much integrity, another was so kind, some were so good and gentlemen and women of great character.
I would think if only I could carry myself like them, I would take everyone's best quality and put it into myself. I did this to myself for years. To this day, I still see the best qualities in people; maybe it's a gift from God. I know that God is very merciful, and He knows our thoughts. One day while driving along, it hit me! If I had all those attributes, I would be Jesus!
Age does have some benefits; as I've gotten older, I have realized that these are fruits, we all possess if we are filled with the Holy Spirit. I may not always display them on my outer character all the time, but as needed. When someone does you wrong, Self-Control is required—just smiling and saying "Hello" to someone Kindness. When a link pulls you into an inappropriate website, and you immediately click out, that is faithfulness.
Be gentle to your animals and your spouse. Kindness doesn't stop at five o'clock when you get off work.
You see there is no law against Love.
Mathew 7:12
So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to
them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."
