Authority January 12
Jude 1:9
But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you." ESV
Authority, something we all contend with one time or another. This must have been a dramatic scene in the heaven, Michael and Satan contending over the body of Moses.
Satan had a very evil intent for Moses’s body, he probably wanted to bury him in a large expensive grave where people would have eventually turned Moses into a false god by falling into idol worship, thereby misleading an entire nation.
God buried Moses Himself with his own hand in a secret place, out of love and respect for Moses. Michael did not blaspheme Satan, not because of who he is, but because of who he once was!
Once while talking to a man he started going off about the devil. He railed against him as though the enemy were stupid. I remember thinking that this was foolish talk, he went on to say he completely had no fear of the devil.
Well, a couple of months went by, It was around 11:00 PM on a Saturday night and I was completely exhausted. I received a call from this man, and he wanted me to come over to his house and pray with a group of men because he was having demonic attacks, clocks stopping, pictures falling off the walls and his wife was very afraid.
I was so tired; I did not want to go. The Holy Spirit rose up in me and said: “Ask him if he is married to _ _ _ _ ?” I had always assumed that they were married, no cause to think otherwise. I asked him, his response was as though he fell over backwards on the other end of the phone! He said, “Well we intend to do the right thing one day.”
I told him that there was no point in me going over there to pray because the enemy had legal authority to be in his home.
Afterwards, I thought back on what he had said a couple of months earlier, taunting the enemy but yet he was living in sin? The point of this is, Michael and the angels operate under authority, God’s authority, Jesus’s authority.
1 Corinthians 15:46 But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.
If you don’t respect the natural authority you won’t have authority in the spiritual.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
