“God of Might and Power”

Jude 1:9

But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you." ESV

Authority, something we all contend with one time or another. This must have been a very dramatic scene in the heavens. Michael and Satan contending over the body of Moses.

The word body covers a wide application. It means one’s body or even a lake or a large body of water. Satan had a very evil intent for Moses’s body. He probably wanted to bury him in a large expensive grave where people would start off by paying their respect to Moses. Satan would’ve eventually turned Moses into a false god by creating idol worship, thereby misleading an entire body of peoples.

But God buried Moses Himself with his own hand in a secret place. Out of respect for Moses.

But what about when it comes to respect for someone you totally despise? Michael had to show respect for Satan, now this is a reversal of thought. Not because of who he is, but because of who he once was! Satan was originally a guardian cherub that was in charge of worship for God.

I personally try not to make railing accusations against the devil. That is to say words of blasphemy against him, by doing this you can actually enter into sin and the devil sits there and laughs!

I have watched and even heard Christian people cuss at the devil. Somehow thinking they are superior to him intellectually (just a reminder, God hates perverse speech.)

One time while talking to a man he started going off about the devil. He railed against him as though the enemy were stupid. I remember thinking that this was foolish talk. He went on to say he completely had no fear of the devil.

Well, a couple of months went by, I was caring for my neighbor’s husband who had suffered partial paralysis from a stroke. It was around 11:00 PM on a Saturday night and I was completely exhausted. I received a call from this man and he wanted me to come over to his house and pray with a group of men because he was having clocks stop, pictures falling off the walls and his wife was getting very afraid.

I was so tired, I did not want to go. The Holy Spirit rose up in me and said: “Ask him if he is married to _ _ _ _ ?” I had always assumed that they were married, no cause to think otherwise. So I asked him. His response was as though he fell over backwards on the other end of the phone! He said “Well we intend to do the right thing one day.”

I told him that there was no point in me going over there to pray because the enemy had legal authority to be in his home.

Afterwards, I thought back on what he had said a couple of months earlier, taunting the enemy but yet he was living in sin? He did marry the lady and the hardships he was suffering from went away.

You see the point of this is, Michael and the angels operate under authority, God’s authority, Jesus’s authority. When we start to understand this authority and operate under governing authorities, i.e. government, police officers, managers we are operating under natural authority, but by operating in the natural we are applying a spiritual law.

1 Corinthians 15:46

But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then

the spiritual.

You see if you don’t respect the natural authority you won’t have authority in the spiritual. We as Americans really struggle with authority and submission.

James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and

he will flee from you.

He is: “Elohim”
