His Eye is on You October 7
Luke 16:10
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
Stewardship encompasses much more than just money, your family, your job, your ministry. I remember a story about a company vice president who was next in line to be the president. The current president was retiring and was in favor of passing the torch to his successor.
A day before the Board of Directors was about to vote, the vice president and the current president went to lunch in the company's cafeteria. While they were sliding their trays along the food buffet, the president noticed that the vice president took a roll and then a little square of butter and hid the butter under the bread roll. The cost was 0.0 3 to 0.05 cents for the butter. When they made it to the cashier, the VP did not tell her about the butter under the roll.
The next day the Board of Directors convened and were ready to vote the VP into his new role as the next company president. As everyone sat at the table, the president entered the room; he informed the Board of Directors that he did not want this man to replace him. He told the story of what he had witnessed and finished with this statement, "If he can't be trusted in the little things, he can't be trusted in the big things." The Board unanimously voted, "No."
The VP thought he was saving himself money by stealing a few cents worth of butter but ended up costing himself tens of thousands of dollars in salary, perks, and prestige.
The small assignments are sometimes frustrating and can even seem fruitless.
