Happy Birthday

Colossians 2:12

Buried together with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who has raised him from the dead.

God is so awesome; we have traditions that prove His existence. Unbelievers think that the bible is just a book written by a man, if that were the case, we would all probably be getting tattoos with fish or crosses on them to prove our faith.

But God always has a plan, so where did baptism begin?

Exodus 14:22

And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

When the Hebrews left Egypt and crossed through the Red Sea the nation was baptized unto Moses:

1Corinthians 10:1-2

All our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

After this, the Hebrews adopted the teaching that because they were born of Abraham, the Jewish need not be baptized, only the new converts to Judaism needed to be baptized this is why when John came about baptizing people they were so confused as to why he was doing this?

Simple, because every person stands for their own sins. Just like we can’t rely on the faith of our parents to get us into heaven. Just because your grandpa was a Pentecostal preacher doesn’t make you righteous.

Once you’ve confessed Jesus as your Lord and Savior the next step is water baptism. Baptism is a very public confession. I used to view it as a cleansing from sin, but it’s much more than that, it’s your burial with Christ, when you are initially drowned for a brief moment, depending on how long-winded your pastor is, that moment of breaking the water’s surface for a much needed breathe of air, suddenly you value your life so much more.

In the verse before Paul talks about circumcising the flesh, here we circumcise our past.

It’s a tradition that should be valued and if someone asks you to attend their baptism it’s a must go-to-event, for their faith and yours.

Really, it’s the second step of faith.
