Mathew 4:4
But He answered and said,
“It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
The Great Temptation of Christ by Satan himself, and it was his best effort to defeat Jesus. At this moment in history, Jesus has now fasted for forty days and forty nights in the wilderness, and He was starving.
Satan said, “If you be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.” This verse is one of the most perplexing temptations ever, frankly quite a brilliant tactic on the enemy’s part, but why was it a sin?
Would it have been a proud display of showmanship and power? There is no sin that I can see, Jesus turned water into wine before this, and that’s where Satan came up with the idea.
Here is what Satan was trying to do, the same thing he does to all of us. Jesus was in God’s perfect will, always, and all the time. It was God’s will for Jesus to be in this fast. The fast was done but yet not complete.
Jesus had not received the ok from God to eat; being moments away from victory, He would have stepped out of God’s perfect will.
There are times when the enemy tries to pull you out of God’s perfect will, and it could be a better job offer in another town that would pull you out of the church body God placed you in. If you make the change, things probably won’t go as smooth, but the God of all grace will be with you in His ‘Permissive will.’ Because just like Adam & Eve, you always have a choice.
Before making a life-changing move, get with God to pray; you can say something like this, “Lord Jesus, if this is within your perfect will for my life, please open the door. If not, please close the door for this opportunity.”
He will either open it or close it, but either way, Be Thankful.
