His Word is Eternal June 15

Psalm 12: 6

The words of the Lord are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever.

I wish I could keep my word as good as God keeps His. If you want a standard to look up to, look no farther than the Bible.

God has preserved his written word for more than 3500 years, with the book of Job being the oldest. In the 1940s, people were beginning to say that the Bible was outdated, and no longer could it possibly be accurate. The word was not translated correctly.

Then one day in 1947, an Arab shepherd boy looking for a lost goat in a steep valley of the Dead Sea threw a rock into a cave, and it sounded like pottery breaking; calling his friend over for help, they worked up enough courage to enter the cave and found some pottery jars. Knowing that they had found some antiques, they divided up the scrolls and set off to sell them.

Not even knowing the magnitude of what they had found, they headed off to a little town called Bethlehem. The antique dealer wouldn’t buy them, so they went to Jerusalem, and there they found some buyers.

I’m amazed at the route they traveled, rising from the depths of the Dead Sea, almost like a resurrection they traveled to Bethlehem then to Jerusalem, the beginning of Jesus’s life on earth and the end.

There were 875 scrolls recovered, including the famous copper scroll of the book of Isaiah. They included every book of the old testament except for the book of Esther.

But the scrolls proved that God’s Word had indeed been ‘preserved,’ It’s almost like God had planned it.
