White Stone April 2

Revelations 2:17

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

He that hath an ear is letting you know this is for everyone. John wrote this letter to the seven churches. This portion of the letter pertains to the church at Pergamum – the worldly church. Pergamum is the throne room of Satan, literally the seat where Satan dwells.

They were in the heat of the battle. They were surrounded by temples made to Zeus, Apollo, and Athena. The cults worshiped Caesar along with idolatry and demon worship. They taught the doctrine of Balaam. Balaam was none other than the false prophet in Numbers 31 that taught King Balak to corrupt God’s people.

Jesus urges the Christians to persevere. The white stone with your new name on it. What does this symbolize? The Roman gladiators had this for retirement incentive. If they made it to retirement, they would receive a white stone. They could take this stone into any shop in Rome and obtain free of charge what they wanted. (I’m sure the taxpayers covered the cost.)

This stone will be very precious to you. Jesus will give you the name that is the real you, the inner you. Whether or not we get to tell others what our new identity, I’m not sure. But if we are allowed to say to others our name, I’m sure it will be quite the conversation starter.

The church at Pergamum knew the value of this stone.

Once I had a vision of someone entering into heaven. He grew younger as they entered in. I could see heaven in the background, and it was colorful and beautiful. I also know a lady that told me she had an experience and saw heaven. She told me that she wants to go there every day; she longs to be there.

Perseverance is the key to overcoming.
