Hebrews 6:14
But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
The beginning of this sentence is actually a metaphor, relating to food in the spirit. For years I have thought about this scripture, I would always think that it meant knowing the difference between right and wrong. But how could that require you to be of full age? A young child knows the difference between right and wrong, it’s taught but it is also inherent. So, this scripture means more than just right and wrong. That’s what I love about the bible it’s alive! The living word just gets deeper the more you study. That is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised.
Tonight, I had the fortune of serving on a ministry team for another ministry, they asked me to pray for people at the service. I saw a young man in the crowd. I asked him to come forward for prayer. He was around 20 years old and had been studying about speaking in tongues. He is very intelligent, and reasoning was his block to actually receiving the gift of tongues.
But the Lord told me this young man was chosen to be a prophet. He liked that but then I told him it takes 15 to 20 years to be promoted to the office of prophet. To him, this was a lifetime. I said: “You have to understand in order to become a good leader you first must become a good follower,” I said some other things to him, and this is what brought his understanding into place with what God is calling him to do: “You can’t give a loaded M-16 to an infant.” Then he understood that this promotion will take learning.
For a few weeks, I was getting real mixed words. It was confusing and it felt like the Lord would say something, then a couple of days later change what he had said? (I must note that this was personal words to me and not with other people.) I was beginning to get depressed and wanting to stop with prophecy. But instead of quitting I called a friend of mine Joe. I explained what was going on and he just laughed and said, “New levels, New devils!”
I felt such a sense of relief come over me, now I knew I was dealing with a demon, after looking into it further this is called a religious spirit that tries to imitate the Holy Spirit. Well, we cast that out real quick.
This is how you discern good and evil in the spirit. When you pray in the Holy Spirit you exercise your senses. Three areas you need to know:
1. Is this your thought?
2. Is this the Holy Spirit?
3. Is this not of God, does it line up with the scripture?
1 John 4:2
In this know ye the Spirit of God: Every Spirit that confesses that Jesus is Christ, is come in the flesh is of God.
If it sidesteps the question cast it out.
There are many ways that the Holy Spirit can speak with you, but be assured it will always hold up to scripture, that’s your baseline.
1 Thessalonians 5: 19-22 Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise the prophecies Test all things; hold fast to that which is good.Abstain from every form of evil.
I encourage people to check my prophetic words, look up the scriptures I use to ensure that I am telling you the truth. Test all things, and hold on that which is good.
