Petition & Reason December 2
Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast holpen me, and comforted me.
Psalm 86 is unique in that it is more of a prayer than a song. David petitions God and then backs up with a reason as to why God should answer his prayer. He makes 13 prayer requests with reasons in this Psalm, and verse 17 is his last request.
I love this verse; when David made all the petitions and all the reasons why God should help him, he said this,
Make me look good on your behalf, embarrass those who had fought against me, because LORD that is who you are, you had always helped me and comforted me when I was down.
Miracles and trials are confidence builders. You can always look back and see that God has helped you through it all.
Then you can remind God that He has helped you so often in the past.
But mostly, you remind yourself.
