Paths of Old

Jeremiah 6:16

Thus, saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

In modern-day terms, God is asking people to pause and take thought about the old ways of serving Him. No matter where we stand in life, there are always two paths ahead, one that is right and one that leads to death. When I read this verse, it makes me think of an ancient song, which I have grown to love and understand over the years, 'Give me That Old Time Religion!' As we sing it, the hymn demonstrates this verse; we are in effect asking God to show us the right path. I know it's 'old school,' but I like it.

I've had times in my life where I was entirely at God's mercy, needing direction and understanding as if my life depended on it, and God has always come through, and I'm sure many of you have stood on the same corner, the corner of faith & fear. One path is straight and narrow, and the other is broad and wide. Each way has its destination.

You get to choose which path you take; you even get to choose whether or not you will reach out to God and ask Him for direction. But what is the 'Old Path?' I think it is love, the greatest commandment, Mat. 22:37& 39… Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind... Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. I just heard the Holy Spirit say, "Don't forget to ask Me for grace." 2Cor. 12:9…And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Ask God for the grace you need to choose the right path and view it from understanding.
