It's Not Mine June 1

Hebrews 13:5

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

To better understand the first portion of this verse, Let your conversation be without covetousness.

The Greek word for conversation is tropos which means, character, or how one conducts himself. It’s not conversation as much as it is about character or your moral attributes that make up your personality.

We all know that covetousness is greed, or a desire for something that belongs to someone else.

An example of covetousness in the bible is:

Jezebel & Ahab I kings 21. Ahab wanted to purchase a vineyard from Nahab, but Nahab refused to sell the property he said, “the Lord forbid me to give you the inheritance of my fathers.” Jezebel with her covetousness had Nahab murdered through false accusations.

and be content. Content comes from the Greek word arkeo and I like this definition, to raise up a barrier.

Be content with what you have, this includes your wife or your husband. If you ever find yourself wanting something that does not belong to you, put up a barrier against covetousness, and how do you do that?

Boldly say, The Lord is my helper,

I can tell you from experience that when you cry out to God for help in fighting off a sin, He will show you how to raise up a barrier.

and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

A conditional promise, if you do these things, you should not be afraid of man.
