Let’s Get Righteous August 30

Psalm 5:12

For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Psalm 5 is a morning prayer that King David prayed, but in verse 1, he starts by asking God to consider his meditation.

Meditation has a dual meaning one is; thoughts, and two is; murmurings. I do this throughout the day, almost like a whisper I’ll speak to God under my breath. No one can hear what I’m saying (unless, of course, I’m deaf and don’t realize I’m shouting out loud?)

But I have confident trust that God hears what I’m saying and am sure that He hears me. That’s genuinely being Blessed by a compassionate God that cares about our little murmurings. There’s a qualifying aspect to this verse, and that aspect is, being righteous.

People often confuse righteousness with Holiness, and trying to be Holy will drive you crazy with frustration. There has only ever been one truly Holy person, and that was Jesus Christ. Sorry to drop this on you, but you can’t do it. However, you can be righteous:

Philippians 3:9

And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Our righteousness comes through faith in Christ, but acts of faith in Christ produce righteousness, such as believing that God hears your prayers.

Believe this: With favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Have a Blessed and Favorable Day!
