Shields August 20
2 Chronicles 12:9-10
So King Shishak of Egypt conquered Jerusalem and took away all the treasures of the Temple and of the palace, also all of Solomon’s gold shields.
King Rehoboam replaced them with bronze shields and committed them to the care of the captain of his bodyguard.
Inheritance, the passing of something old, something of great value, maybe it’s wisdom, a pocket watch, some property, or a bank account, either one is to be valued.
King Solomon left behind great wealth for his son, King Rehoboam, and he even left great teachings written in the books of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, & Solomon’s Songs. Sadly, King Rehoboam didn’t value all that his ancestors had passed down.
When the Hebrews left Egypt, they took all of Egypt’s wealth with them, and I can’t help but notice that the enemy came and took it all back plus some interest. But this time, they took the golden shields for tribute payment; symbolically, what did they really take?
Gold represents: pureness, wealth, honor its these virtues we like to see when our Olympians win the race, First Place.
In the bible, the silver-headed person is honored, and their advice is to be considered valuable.
The third is bronze. I always think of bronze as the power of man, doing it your way.
King Rehoboam would have the guard captain take the bronze shields out on special occasions and then have them locked in a secure place. I think the reason he did this was two-fold.
One, he suddenly valued what little he had; it became more precious to him than the wealth he had possessed before, two he didn’t want to see his defeat every time he walked out of the palace.
Before, the shinning gold shields represented honor and glory, a bright future. Now every time he looked, he saw the consequences of turning his back against God. When he looked at the bronze shields, all he thought about was the darkened past.
We all have a past, a regret, something we wish we would have never done; people tend to look at life thinking they can conquer it through their strengths, only to be defeated.
The Good News is Jesus, and He has a new shield just for you. In a vision, I have seen the armor of God. It was very, very beautiful, gold with silver inlay in a beautiful design.
Jesus will give you a shield too; it’s called; The Shield of Faith
Ephesians 6:16
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
This shield never needs to be put in a closet; in fact, the more you use it, the more it shines!
Be a bright light for Christ.
