And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?
Of course, this is the famous tent meeting between Abraham and God. God and two of his angels appeared before Abraham, maybe one was Jesus preincarnate? Some say it was three angels, but the text clearly uses the title LORD in all caps which translates from the Hebrew word Yehovah which means God and indicates that this is the Father God personally.
Why is this important? Because Abraham has become a friend of God, and friends influence friends. God informs Abraham that He is going personally to see for Himself the evil of Sodom & Gomorrah, vs. 21: I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it.
Of course, God already knew what was going on, and He already knew what Abraham would do and say. But God was looking for someone to intercede on behalf of a wicked city. He came to His friend Abraham for advice, of course through Abraham’s many miles of travels God has placed Him here at just this moment, unknown to Abraham, Father God had directed his travels to this very place.
Like your personal prayer time, you may think I have to spend some time in prayer, as you start to pray you may see an image or receive a thought about a person you haven’t seen in years, often we drift off and think ‘I wonder what ever happened to them?’
Did you ever stop to think that God considers you a friend? He’s asked the Holy Spirit to have you intercede for that person. When a thought like this happens, take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit what do you need me to pray? Or maybe you know their situation and can just intercede on their behalf. What wouldn’t you do for a friend? When it comes to Jesus, He gave His life for you, I’m sure He considers you His friend, a friend that was worth the cost.
