The Great Race June 11
Proverbs 15:3
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
Have you ever heard the saying, 'If you don't get caught, there's nothing wrong with it?'
The truth is God is always watching. I have this old saying that I think about often, 'Excellence is in the details!' Of course, that applies to work, but have you ever thought about using it to the details no one else will see?
A cashier gives you a dollar extra with your change, and you give it back instead of keeping it, someone cuts you off in traffic, and you ignore it, someone else takes credit for your work, and you bless them. Do it often enough, and the little things add up in your favor.
I once listened to a story about a man that went to heaven. He said God opened a book of his life and the pictures of moments in his life where he spoke hurtful words around others, but he also could feel what the other people felt when he said the words.
He saw a picture of himself helping a young boy train on the high school track team. The boy was overweight and picked on often. He thought nothing of the image and protested, "I won that track meet!" and he heard the words, "We don't care about that up here." God was more interested in his kindness than first place.
Sometimes we get focused on the wrong race, the wrong prize. The race of life is a marathon of faith and good works, and the first-place rewards are the words:
"Well done thou good and faithful servant!"
Go for first place with God.
