Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
John was a man of God that would never back down. I have so much awe for this prophet of God.Imagine living your whole life, in solitude, eating the strictest diet, proclaiming the future arrival of the Messiah.
Suddenly you look up and there He is! Standing on the bank looking at you, can you imagine that moment? Can you see John standing waist deep in the water of the Jordan river?
For the first time in his life, John the prophet, was speechless. A solemn hush covers the crowd as they gaze at John wondering why he has become frozen in silence. In a splendor of grace and humility; Jesus the Christ, slowly steps into the river and approaches John.
John’s looking at everything he has believed coming to pass. He's suddenly is standing before him! Then in his humilty and human like understanding he tries to prevent Jesus from being baptized.
Jesus responds by saying; “Suffer it to be so now”
I can see the pain on John’s face as he submerges Jesus, an inner hurt of unworthiness to do the task assigned.
Jesus has a plan for your life too, suffer means, to yield. Allow the Lord to pass before you and bring it to completion.
“This, He will do for you, if you suffer Me, allow Me to bring it to completion!”
