The Lord Is There March 19

John 14:13

And whatsoever ye ask in My name, that will I do. That the Father may be glorified in the Son.

I Corinthians 14:1

Follow after charity and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophecy.

Have you ever been to church and listened to someone prophesy? Have you ever wondered if this is still available to the body of Christ? Good news! It is! And you can have this gift too. Some people believe that the gifts of the spirit died out with the apostles, but nowhere in the bible does it say they have stopped, and to support this belief they quote:

I Corinthians 13:8 Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end, as for languages (tongues), they will cease, as, for knowledge, it will come to an end.

In sales, we call this an open-ended statement. There is no time frame attached to it in this context. If it must come to pass, why would God keep it as open-ended statement? Let us look at:

Mathew 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

He keeps the timeframe open, because after the church is taken up, or the millennial reign of Christ begins, there will be no need to prophesy, to speak in tongues, no need for words of knowledge.

Here and now the gifts are needed, speaking in tongues is coded messaging between you and God that the enemy cannot decipher. A word of knowledge is the Lord letting you in on someone’s personal problem in order for you to get them help from above. Prophesy edifies, builds others up and encourages.

Now anyone (that’s saved) can prophecy, but speaking as a prophet is another office. A prophet will be given future insights, into what will happen, and also to help people prepare. Typically, a person will start off prophesying, and God may promote them to the office of prophet.

Years ago, I had a vision of myself picking up a rusted sword, I didn’t know what to make of it at the time, it perplexed me, years went by. One day while at my desk, Judy walked in and said, “Your mother sent you this” My mother sent me a bible from my Great Grandmother, it was dated around the 1850’s. As Judy handed me the bible, the vision came back! The bible turned into that sword! It was a fast glimpse of the old vision that I had wondered about for years.

When I read it, I was awed by the reverence in the good book. There were no personal study notes written in the margins or underlined scriptures. She had locks of hair tucked between the pages, little paper notes from others, one newspaper article, everything saved seemed to be precious memories.

As I was studying to learn how to prophesy, I thought “I’ll look in the old family bible and see how it read compared to nowadays.” To my amazement, she had underlined with a pencil the very same scriptures that I was studying! Scripture for scripture, I guess I had just never noticed it before.

You see she believed it was still available, wouldn’t you like to leave that gift to your children?

Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children: and the wealth of a sinner is laid up for the just.

Laid up for the just, maybe he’s talking about a gift that an unsaved person let fall to the ground. A spiritual gift that was never used. Take up your sword, grab hold of your gift. Spend time in prayer and ask the Son if you can have a gift that will glorify the Father. We all love presents, and God gives the best gifts, Selah.
