Build on the Rock December 17

Mathew 7:24-27

Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock;

“and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:

“and the rains came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it fell, and great was its fall.”

I lived in South Louisiana for several years, and believe me, I can relate to this verse in the natural and spiritual. Thunderhead clouds would roll in off the Gulf of Mexico, with furious winds that the locals call: squalls.

The good thing about a squall was that they come in and go out pretty fast, with lots of rain, lightning, thunder, and wind. You knew they would pass so that you could hold on for a while, but the problem was you never really knew how long a storm would last.

Then there is the hurricane, a whole different level of storm, stronger winds, tornadoes, and much more rain. Before modern technology, people didn’t know when the eye of the storm was passing over. The eye is a round hole in the middle of the cloud. While in the middle of the eye, people would venture out too far away from safety, thinking the storm had passed, then out of nowhere, the storm would slam them again with its peak intensity. Imagine winds of zero mph, and then suddenly 125 mph wind hits you; a stick could kill you.

One night when I first became a Christian, I had a dream (a night vision). I was walking down a beach, and there was this Antebellum-style house, the front columns were starting to fall, and the foundation was breaking. I looked at the home, and the Lord spoke to me and said: “Scott, why are the columns falling on this house?” I pointed behind the house and said: “Lord, it’s because they did not go far enough back and build on a solid foundation.”

That was the end of that dream when I woke up. Even though I never studied dream interpretations, I knew the meaning, something terrible was coming my way, and Bad things happened.

Always remember the enemy cannot sustain an attack against you forever. You may have your arms wrapped around a tree waiting for the storm to pass, but it will pass. Unless, of course, you are one of those storm chasers, but that’s a whole other devotion.

Matthew 8:26

But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
