And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto Him, Lord I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
The Holy Spirit uses His words very carefully here in this text. Notice the words, the way.
We get the word way from the Greek word,
Which means a road; by implication a progress (the route, act or distance); figuratively a mode or means: - journey, (high-) way.
It occurs 120 times in the bible in various uses. Here you can see that they are walking down a road taking a journey in the natural. But did you know that the early church was actually referred to as ‘The Way?’ we can see Apostle Paul referring to this in,
“But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect. so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets.”
And again in,
But when Felix heard these things, having more accurate knowledge of the Way, he adjourned the proceedings,
Jesus and the disciples were walking on a road but the road was a journey, a spiritual journey that everyone can walk, every nation every people, every individual. Every person is really on his own way, one way or another. The bible says in,
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD weighs the hearts.
We weigh spiritual matters in our minds but God weighs them in our hearts. Your heart is what God is after because He’s already given you His heart, only you can allow Him the Way into your heart, then He can show you His Way, which is a much better road to travel.
