Redeeming God March 14

2 Samuel 7:12-13

And when thy days are fulfilled and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

He shall build a house for My Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

This was The Word of the Lord to his faithful servant King David. It was in David’s heart to build a temple for God. The prophet Nathan the day before had told David that it would be a good thing for David to do this. But Nathan had not checked with the Lord before he gave David his own thoughts, and now the Lord was sending Nathan back to David to correct some bad advice.

David had many great qualities, but his greatest attribute was understanding the character of God as well as his deep love for the Father. But God said that David had been a man of war and had shed blood, and because of this he could not build the temple.

Imagine how devastated David must have felt when Nathan came back with the true word of God?

Have you ever had a lifetime desire that you just couldn’t accomplish? Family and a career just wouldn’t allow or more than likely your own lack of self-worth, an invisible barrier that only you can see. Then when you get older you look back and think I wish I would have done that?

Years ago, I wanted to go to Mexico and be a missionary for the Lord, As I sat in church I felt that the Lord told me, “I haven’t called you to that.” As I sat alone in the congregation tears began to flow, I tried hard to keep my composure. Friends walked by and patted me on the back saying, “It’ll be okay Scott” not even knowing what was going on inside my battle-torn mind. Then what David did, and this verse came to my mind:

1 Chronicles 29:2 "Now for the House of God I have prepared with all my might:”

David didn’t just sit back and give up on his vision. He knew it was the task of his son Solomon to build the temple and David knew the tremendous task that it would be for a young man to undertake. So, David prepared all the architectural plans for the temple, all the vessel designs, instrument designs, weights, and measures to the smallest details! He saved and donated in today’s money over 1 billion dollars towards the construction of the temple! I thought, if David could do this, I can give a week’s pay to this and it would be like I actually spent a week in Mexico doing the work of a missionary! I could stay at home, keep my remote control, and get credit for their hard work, it’s a win, win!

If you’ve missed an opportunity in life, just ask God to give you understanding on how you could still get credit for the call? He will guide you.

He is:Jehovah – Go-el
