Mighty in Battle January 14
Psalm 91:4
He shall cover you with His feathers. And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and your buckler.
What does it mean for God to cover you with His feathers? Sounds weak doesn’t it? I have asked the Lord about this before and He gave me a vision of a little chick snuggling under his mother’s feathers, it was very lovely as well as precious, it’s a safe place to be.
I read a story about a farmer, and his barn had burned to the ground killing all the animals inside. As he walked through the debris, he saw a severely burned hen lying dead on the ground. When he kicked it over little chicks ran out still alive and unharmed. The mother had laid down her life to save her chicks, doesn’t this sound like Jesus?
Another thing I often wondered about was the use of a ‘Buckler’ we all know what a shield does and that it offers much protection from arrows and the enemies’ other weapons, but a buckler? Why it’s nothing more than a hardened pie plate, or so I thought.
While sitting at Prayer Stop a couple of years ago, I had an encounter. While sitting I looked over to the chair next to me, and there was this large man sitting next to me. He had black curly hair, no shirt, large barrel chest, a leather girdle that strapped over one arm, no pants, and a Buckler.
He sat half bent over with the buckler on his arm contemplating and a little angry, he sat up and then took the buckler with much force and a violent slicing thrust to my face!
Thank God it was a vision from the Lord! People driving by must have thought that I lost my mind when I jerked backwards for no apparent reason.
It was then that I realized that God will violently protect you with His buckler! It is an offensive weapon as well as defensive. Now I read this scripture with a whole new understanding and appreciation for what God is willing to do to protect His children. And how does He protect you? with His Truth and His Truth is Jesus.
John 14:6
And Jesus saith unto him, I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life:
He is: Jehovah Gibbor Milchamah
