Name Six

Romans 13:9

For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

While in prayer one day the Lord asked me a question, “Scott can you name six of the Ten Commandments?”

Needless to say I was surprised by the question, so like an overweight athlete trying to do a 50 meter hurdle for the first time, I managed to do it. I’m very sure Jesus was not impressed.

But, this really got me to thinking why would He just ask me to name only six? Why not all Ten?

Where’s the other four commandments?

Thou shalt have no other God besides me.

Thou shalt not make any graven image,

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain,

Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy.

Why were these not included?

The simple answer can be found in one-word Love.

You see if you Love your neighbor as you love yourself you would never harm anyone. Love fulfills all the law. With Love you would never want to do anything that would harm someone else, and you would Love God with all your heart, you would never dream of having another god before Him, and you would want to spend everyday with Him. If you Love God with all your heart you will detest sin.

Think about this; Love is what kept Jesus on the cross.

Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.

Wow! it will take you some time to comprehend the magnitude of that verse.

What manner of Love can you bestow on someone today?

He is: Elohim Ahavah

“The God Who Loves”
