Profiting from Trials

James 1: 2 - 8 New King James Version My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. To me James starts this letter out like a boxer throwing a punch, he

Divine Instruction

Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” We often come to places in life where we don’t really know which way to go, or how to respond in a situation. This promise assures us that God knows the way. Many times, over the years I have been in situations where I didn’t know which way to turn. Stress it can cause so much confusion. I’ve noticed it can build up or it can hit you like a freight train, either way, it’s not from God. His solution will come if you just ask and know how to wait. Once I was in a job interview and it was going very well, suddenly the interviewer asked, “If you were a cartoon character who would you b

Hope

Philippians 3:13-14 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Today I met a lady and she quoted this scripture to me but in a natural way, it was sort of her philosophy on life. She said, “Don’t think about the past and all the bad things that have happened to you over the years, they make you just want to just give up, instead find something good to hang onto something that you want to achieve and that will cause you to go on.” I knew she was quoting this scripture but she was

Easter Sunday

Exodus 21:20-21 And if a man smites his slave or his maid with a rod and he dies under his hand, he shall be surely punished. Not with-standing, if he continues a day or two, he shall not be punished, for he is his money. A couple of years ago a Muslim man posted this verse on Facebook: In the comments, he asked how could you possibly serve a God like this, a God who permits people to be treated in this way? I thought about the question he asked and to be honest it is a very fair question. After I gave this some thought I realized that this doesn’t condone slavery or slave brutality but rather it points us to today, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The very understanding is that the very p

Finding His Place

Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This Psalm plants a vivid image in one’s imagination, but what kind of image should we imagine? Some people would think a home, others the shade of a tree. But let’s look at this from God’s perspective. The word dwells could imply a few things; to judge which implies that we judge our actions and thoughts through God’s standard, or to sit or even to marry into God’s ways. Shelter, where would God have shelter? Somewhere above as we see He is positioned here by calling Himself: The Most High so this shelter is positioned above us, above our thoughts and limitations of the flesh we see this in: E

The Lord my Father

Psalm 103:13 The Lord is like a Father to His children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him. So many times, over the past few years the Lord has graciously applied this scripture to me. There's been times while praying for someone that I have missed it, prophetically that is. Sometimes when I make a mistake I see a vision of a little child twelve or thirteen months old, a toddler. The child has fallen and with his upstretched arms he toddles back to his Father, that is all there is to it, and I know what it means. The Father never scolds the child for falling, instead he comforts him and then encourages him to walk again and praises him for his next little accomplishment, no matte
